A Conservation Philosophy
Conservative repair is central to the solutions proposed by Paul Reed Conservation. The company works closely with local authorities and archaeologists to ensure historical features are maintained.
Sympathetic repairs, which cause minimal disruptions to the historic fabric, are fundamental to our approach. Traditional methods and carpentry joints are used, unless a substitute is considered more beneficial to the protection of the building.
One of the primary causes of damage to historic buildings is the use of inapproriate, non-breathable materials. Our craftsmen use only traditional materials that allow buildings to breathe.
Materials are sourced locally wherever possible and when necessary, such as for wattle and daub, coppiced products are produced by local suppliers.
